After 12 years, the Hungarian women's handball team reached the semifinals of the European Championship by defeating the Romanian team 37-29 in the third round of the semi-finals of the continental competition, which was partly organized in Debrecen.
The team of national team captain Vladimir Golovin achieved its sixth success and is still at 100 percent. Prior to this, in 2004, also in a domestic environment, the national team had its best start at the Continental Tournament, which was able to win in its first five meetings.
This was the 102nd match between the two teams, with 34 Romanian wins and nine draws, the 59th Hungarian success.
The national team will close the semi-finals against France on Tuesday, the stake will be the first place in the group. Golovin's team met the world champion and Olympic silver medalist team twice during the preparation period, in one match the Hungarians won 30-27, and in the other the French won 26-22.
The first two places in the semi-final groups go to the semi-finals, and the third places can play for the fifth place, both in Vienna.
