The US president-elect spoke about his plans.
Donald Trump is preparing to take active steps to end the war in Ukraine, but at the same time, the level of military aid to Ukraine may decrease - the president, who took office on January 20, spoke about this in a comprehensive interview with NBC television broadcast on Sunday.
Donald Trump stated that he is "actively trying to end the war if he can," and added that Ukraine will probably have to count on not receiving as much military aid from the United States after taking office as it does now.
The president-elect also explained that the deportation of immigrants staying in the United States illegally will begin with criminals, but then the series of steps will be extended to others. As he put it, "it's a very hard thing to do, but we need rules and laws, and these people came illegally."
At the same time, he added that as president he will try to legalize the status of those who are referred to as Dreamers, and promised to cooperate with the Democrats for this purpose. This is the group of people staying in the country illegally who arrived illegally as children, but now have a stable existential background.
He said the deportation measures are not intended to break up families with some members in the country illegally and others with legal status, but noted that the solution here may be for entire families to leave the United States.
Donald Trump will even initiate a constitutional amendment in order to abolish birthright citizenship,
that is, the practice that a baby born in the United States automatically becomes an American citizen regardless of the legality of the parents' residence.
In the more than one-hour interview, the future president also explained that on the day he takes office, he wants to grant amnesty to those who were convicted in connection with the riots on January 6, 2021, and who are being treated very harshly in prison.
He reiterated his earlier promise to expand the tax cuts introduced during his first term as president and emphasized his intention to impose tariffs on US trading partners. At the same time, he emphasized that there will be no cuts in the social and health insurance system, and the scope of the Ministry of Government Efficiency will not extend to this area.
