The Romanian anti-corruption prosecutor's office (DNA) detained Marosvásárhely mayor Zoltán Soós for 24 hours, Mihály Levente Kovács, deputy mayor of the Transylvanian city from RMDSZ, confirmed to the Székelyhon news portal on Monday evening.
Citing sources, the Romanian press reported on Monday evening that Zoltán Soós, who won his second mandate this summer as an independent with the support of Hungarian political parties, was interrogated on Monday, and then detained for 24 hours by the DNA. At the end of this, on Tuesday, a decision will be made on his possible pretrial detention, they wrote.
The anti-corruption prosecution instituted proceedings against Zoltán Soós in May 2023.
He himself informed the public about the proceedings against him, as he wrote, the DNA is investigating a case "concerning the official status of some employees of the Marosvásárhely Town Hall".
