285 cars will form the backbone of the IC fleet of the Hungarian Railways, which will be completely renewed within a few years.

The railway company will renew the InterCity fleet - announced Zsolt Hegyi, the CEO of the MÁV group, on Facebook on Tuesday.

He emphasized that more and more people are traveling more and more with their company, so their fleet of vehicles must be expanded and modernized.

He added that there are three solutions available for this, and they live with all of them at the same time.

First of all, vehicles that are suitable for this are renovated. Second-hand vehicles are rented to alleviate the shortage of vehicles and make domestic rail transport more reliable. As a third solution, brand new vehicles are acquired.

In the case of the latter, the procurement process of 285 IC cars officially started on Tuesday. A preliminary market consultation was announced, in the framework of which they will assess which manufacturer, how quickly, and under what conditions can supply the Hungarian railway company with 2nd class room cars, 1st class dining section, control and room cars, as well as low-floor, high-capacity bicycle carriers and "luggage cars".
