Compared to the first peace mission, the situation had changed a lot by December, and with the election of Trump, even the most powerful country in the Western world will be interested in peace.
The diplomatic environment changed a lot between the first and the second peace mission, but the Hungarian diplomacy and connectivity strategy may face further challenges due to the priorities of the successive Polish presidency starting in January and the incoming US presidential administration. In light of all this
the greatest achievement of the successive Hungarian presidency of the EU is that Viktor Orbán was able to put on the table an alternative to the peace policy ideas represented by European mainstream political forces.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Radio Kossuth Good morning, Hungary! In his Friday morning broadcast, he talked about the role and results of the peace mission of the successive Hungarian presidency. The prime minister emphasized that there is an offer on the table at the Hungarian initiative, which says that at least no one dies on the front line at Christmas.
Viktor Orbán put the alternative of peace on the table during his consecutive presidency - this was already discussed by Zoltán Kiszelly, who evaluated what the prime minister said for hirado.hu.
When evaluating the results of the first and second peace missions, the political scientist drew attention to the fact that Hungary's politics were significantly influenced by the international environment, because at the time of the first mission, the re-election of Donald Trump was still far away, so Hungary was alone among the countries belonging to the collective West with its peace aspirations. we could rely almost exclusively on the Vatican.
Compared to the first peace mission, the situation had changed a lot by December, and with the election of Trump, even the most powerful country in the Western world will be interested in peace.
All this will be important in the light of the Polish presidency starting in January, which will talk about peace in words, while they are actually interested in the continuation of the war. For Poland, peace could come in the event of Russia's defeat, but this possibility could also entail a dangerous escalation.
Due to the impending Polish presidency, Hungary's diplomatic opportunities may change in the future, so our country must stay in touch with actors outside the EU if it wants to be heard in the peace process. Furthermore, Washington can be an important support in restraining pro-war, globalist forces in domestic politics.
A possible US-China diplomatic standoff could also pose challenges to Hungary's connectivity strategy, which is also important due to America's changing foreign policy priorities, as Washington wants to end the Ukrainian crisis as quickly as possible, so that it can then devote most of its power to the Asian region. However, certain agreements between the parties may also create new opportunities.
