The Romanian Hungarian Democratic Union (RMDSZ) will lead the finance ministry and the development ministry in the new Romanian government, the union announced on Sunday.

According to the RMDSZ, they managed to agree with the coalition partners that the government will be formed by the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the RMDSZ, with the parliamentary support of the (non-Hungarian) national minority faction.

The new government consists of 16 ministers: for the first time, the RMDSZ will have a finance minister in the person of Barna Tánczos, who is also deputy prime minister, and Attila Cseke will manage the development ministry.

We asked for Hungarians' support and trust in the campaign in order to bring common sense back to decision-making and to protect the citizens, the Hungarians, from the dangers ahead," the RMDSZ statement pointed out.

The association indicated that it will use government funds to continue the programs that support families and young people, and wants to create a predictable economic environment in which entrepreneurs and investors can develop safely.

RMDSZ president Kelemen Hunor pointed out in a video statement published on his social media page: RMDSZ assumes the responsibility of governing in a difficult political, financial and budgetary situation, and they want to do government work that not only puts the country's budget in order, but wants to do it without raising taxes, so that its " citizens should not pay the price".

President Klaus Iohannis invited the parties represented in the new parliament elected on December 1st to the presidential office to discuss the formation of the government.

The representatives of the Association for the Unification of Romanians (AUR), considered extremist by the other parties, and two smaller parties founded by former AUR politicians did not participate in the negotiations and announced that they do not recognize Iohannis as the legitimate president of Romania, because they believe that his mandate has expired and that it is a "coup d'état ” remained in the presidential palace after the Constitutional Court annulled the results of the presidential election.

In addition to the parties that make up the government coalition, the Save Romania Association (USR), which also asserts its commitment to Europe but was forced out of the coalition due to its radical reform demands, took part in the consultation.

The opposition party also urged Iohannis' resignation.

After the consultation, the president stated that the pro-European coalition formed by PSD, PNL, RMDSZ and the national minority faction has a majority in the parliament and has agreed on joint governance.

On Monday, President Klaus Iohannis is preparing to give the coalition's candidate for prime minister a mandate to form a government. The PSD is nominating party chairman Marcel Ciolacu, current prime minister, to the post.
