December 6, 2024 (Friday) | 16.00 hours

Hunyadi Mátyás Hall MCC | Tas vezér utca 3-7, 1113 Budapest

Dr. Irén Rab, the founder and editor-in-chief of the online magazine Ungarnreal-Ungarn aus erster Hand, presents his book edited with a thematic selection from the writings published in Ungarnreal.

In the volume, on more than five hundred pages, we can read selected writings by selected authors in German about the defining stages of Hungarian history, Hungarian culture, culture of memory, the country and the national character: how the Germans see us, how we see ourselves and how we want them to see us.

The editor of the volume and the author of many articles, Dr. Cultural historian and publicist Irén Rab taught Hungarianology at the University of Göttingen for twelve years.

Among the authors of the volume are renowned historians and publicists, employees of the MCC Hungarian-German Institute, and we can read source texts not known in German from past and present history.

The reader experiences "Hungary first-hand" from page to page. The fresh-toned handbook on Hungary and Hungarians can be used well by Hungarians living abroad, Germans who are Hungarian-friendly or become so because of the book, and the Germanized second-third generation.

Opening speech by Dr. Bence Bauer, director of the Hungarian-German Institute for European Cooperation.

The evening will be moderated by Ágnes Horváth, prominent editor of Kossuth Rádió.

The language of the event is German. We provide a limited number of German-Hungarian simultaneous interpretation.

Participation in the event requires a personal invitation and registration, which you can do by December 3, 2024 at this link.
