The Night of the Dance Halls is not just a cultural event.
On September 14, the Night of Dance Houses National Opening Season Dance Party will open its doors for the thirty-fifth time. The large-scale event organized by the Táncház Egyesület is hosted by the Fonó Budai Music Hall. This event kicks off the dance hall season with interactive family programs in the afternoon, dance halls that last until dawn, and the participation of many excellent bands. Fonó, which hosts the event, is also celebrating its thirtieth anniversary with this opening day.
In the course of the evening, the dances and music of the Hungarians of the Carpathian Basin will be on the table, but we can also look into material culture with the participation of artisans. From 4:00 p.m. onwards, MintaKINCStár's crafts and interactive children's programs, children's dances with the participation of the National Heritage Children's and Youth Folk Art Association await those interested.
From 7:00 p.m., teenagers can have fun in the almost legendary Kamasz dance hall of the Sarjú Banda, which will continue to fill the Fonó spaces on one Saturday a month during the dance hall season. This is primarily for young people who have outgrown the children's dance halls, and those who are still too young for the adult dance halls.
The Sarjú Banda, known from the Fölszállott a Pava talent show, plays an amazing dance house every time, where dance masters help beginners get involved.
From 8:30 p.m., participants can dance to the music of several participating bands, such as Gázsa, Bara, Üsztürü and the Budapest Mezőség Band in the Pajta string dance hall, while the Berka Ensemble plays in the Moldavian dance hall in the main hall.
The Night of the Dance Houses, which welcomes whole families from the afternoon, provides free entry for children up to 10 years of age.
The late-night dance halls will last until 3:00 a.m. the next day, so anyone can symbolically dance their way into the upcoming dance hall season!
The Night of the Dance Halls is not just a cultural event; rather, it is a tradition-preserving community experience that provides an opportunity to revive and live on the folk traditions of the Carpathian Basin.
The event also marks the start of Fonó's dance hall season.
In the future, the participants are invited to dance classes on Fonó Szerda's dance hall every week. The Berka Ensemble holds a Moldavian and string dance every other Friday. On a monthly basis, Martenica plays Bulgarian dance house, while Kolo Együttes plays South Slavic dance house. On one Saturday a month, young people are invited to the children's dance hall of the Fitos Dezső Társulat, then to the youth dance hall of the Sarjú Banda and to the dance party of the ViGaD Ensemble.
