If the EU decides that EU citizens can travel only with vaccination certificates approved in the EU, Hungary is open to negotiations with Serbia on how to allow Hungarian and Serbian citizens to travel between the two countries, said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Nikola Selakovic with the Serbian Foreign Minister in Belgrade.
In response to a question from the TANJUG news agency, he pointed out that Serbia is one of the most successful countries in the field of vaccination, both in terms of vaccine procurement and the number of vaccinated people.
"This means that it is more protected than any other EU country, so we are ready for bilateral agreements on this issue," he added. He emphasized that Covid passports cannot be discriminatory and that Hungary does not only accept the recognition of vaccines approved by the competent European institution.
Although Hungary respects the regulations of the European Union, they also allow for two methods of vaccination approval.
"Only one of these is the European Institute of Pharmacology, but the other is that in an emergency, the competent national authorities can decide which vaccine to accept."
When asked what the situation is in Hungary regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine, and whether it is planned to be suspended, Szijjártó said that this vaccine is constantly monitored and experts' opinions are followed.
