Unfortunately, the weather of the past few days is no April Fool's joke, there were frosts at night and even snow showers during the day. So it is perhaps understandable that problems caused by the weather were also in the focus of yesterday's briefing by the Minister of Agriculture, István Nagy .
He pointed out that the fruit growers are fighting a superhuman battle with the frost, while the drought and the coronavirus epidemic are also affecting agriculture.
He added: in this situation, the ministry recommends to the farmers that, despite the national ban on setting fires, they protect the plantations that have just begun to bloom by creating fire and smoke , because protection is an exception to the ban. At the same time, he also drew attention to the observance of the rules.
The minister asked the producers to assess the damage, because they can count on the support of the damage remediation fund this year as well.
István Nagy said: the work of farmers is an immeasurable treasure, all the more so because one of the main economic forces of Hungary is agriculture and the food industry. Therefore, the government is doing its best to create a legislative environment that makes farming predictable and secures the future of farmers and agriculture . This is also the purpose of the fact that in the upcoming period's rural development program announcements, only those fruit plantations that operate according to complete technology can be tendered. In other words, from the ice net, through defrosting to irrigation, they provide an opportunity for protection.
