From Monday, i.e. from May 3 to June 13, the census in Slovakia will continue with the help of assistants, which will be carried out by the municipalities together with the Slovak Statistical Office. Persons who for some reason did not do so in the previous period may also participate in this phase of the census.
The help of the enumerators can mainly be counted on by those persons who did not have the opportunity to fill out the enumeration form due to lack of internet access or digital skills. All of this primarily affects elderly people without internet access, settlements mostly inhabited by Roma, and the homeless, but those who forgot about the census in the previous period can also get involved.
The residence in Slovakia remains a valid condition, which can be permanent, temporary or tolerated. The assisted census can also be used by citizens of European Union member states who generally stay in the territory of the country.
The term assistant refers to the persons designated for this purpose by each municipality, who, together with the Slovak Statistical Office, also provide information, such as where the places designated for this purpose will be. According to census spokeswoman Jasmína Stauder, the time of customer reception is determined by the settlements based on the needs of the population.
Regarding concerns about the misuse of data, the spokesperson said that this cannot happen as all assistants who work with the data have adequate data protection training and must be of integrity.
