Perhaps not many people know that László Bódi "Cipő", the popular rock singer, music and songwriter, was born in Ungvár on May 3, 1965. On the occasion of the anniversary of his birth, the latest work of the sculptor Mihály Kolodko depicting the performer was inaugurated on the banks of the Ung.
The singer, who died prematurely in 2013, was the frontman of the band Republic and the favorite musician of several generations.
- The statue may even become a place of pilgrimage in the future - said Marica Bódi, Cipő's sister, who was reached by phone at the statue inauguration. "My brother also always thought with great fondness of the days spent with relatives in Transcarpathia when we were children. These experiences could also be decisive internal reserves, which helped him to create many successful songs.
At the event, representing the Consulate General of Hungary in Ungvár, Consul Attila Kovács thanked the Armada Carpathian organization for its support. "Unfortunately, he left us very early, but at the same time, his spirit and work live on among us through songs like '67 road, If you were here with me, Go away, little bird," said the consul.
