In the northern part of Pest County, 16 churches in 12 settlements can be renovated with HUF 213 million in government support, Szobon, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations, announced on Monday.

Miklós Soltész said that within the framework of the church renovation program adopted by the government even before Easter, during Holy Week, 1,400 churches within the border and 400 churches outside the border can receive support from the HUF 26 billion budget.

He added that in the northern part of Pest County, 8 Catholic, 5 Reformed and 2 Lutheran churches, as well as 1 Jewish religious house of worship, can be renovated in the coming years. In addition to the importance of the renovation, he also emphasized that local businesses will find work from these amounts.

Bence Rétvári, the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources (Emmi), the KDNP member of parliament of the region, said that behind the 16 winning applicants there are living communities, in these places the scene of community life is the church and the house of prayer.

The state secretary spoke about how the churches of Bernecebárati, Kóspallag, Rád, Vác, Szob, Vámosmikola, Kismaros, Kosd, Nagymaros, Perőcsény, Verőce and Csővár can be renovated with government support in the 4th parliamentary constituency of Pest County.
