The words in the title were written on trams during the 1956 war of independence, when Cardinal Mindszenty was freed from the captivity of the communists.   Thirty years ago, on May 4, 1991, the ashes of Cardinal József Mindszenty, who died in Vienna in 1975, were reburied in Esztergom.

The return of his mortal remains in 1991 also conveyed the message of freedom.

Cardinal Mindszenty's last will was exactly as follows:

"If the star of Moscow's Pan-Slavic unbelief falls over the country of Mary and St. Stephen, let my body be taken to the basilica cemetery in Esztergom."

The Mindszenty Foundation established by the cardinal was responsible for the execution of the will, and the board of trustees at the time established in October 1990 that the condition mentioned in the text, the fall of communism, had been fulfilled.

"Let his grave in Esztergom be the spiritual meeting place of Hungarians scattered around the world, the guardian of the religious and national values for which he worked so hard throughout his life," said Cardinal László Paskai on the eve of the reburial, on May 3, 1991. When we look at the many wreaths, prayers, and candles that still surround the grave of the venerable cardinal, we have the pleasant feeling that the request of thirty years ago was answered.

On the occasion of this year's pilgrimage to Mindszenty, we can return to the resting place of the confessor cardinal, where on August 16, 1991, at the first stop of his apostolic visit, St. II. Pope John Paul also prayed.

"I look at you with joy, my brothers, who have gathered around me here in Esztergom, at the ancient seat of the Primate! I thank God for his grace, which allowed me to give thanks for you and together with you in the central sanctuary of your people, which you rightly call "Hungarian Zion".

In memory of József Mindszenty, a traditional mass is also presented in Rome. You can follow the ceremony presented at the Basilica of Santo Stefano Rotondo on May 6, on the heavenly birthday of the venerable cardinal, on the Facebook page of the Papal Hungarian Ecclesiastical Institute.

On the eve of the exhibition, on May 5 at 8 p.m., the Facebook page of the Hungarian Academy of Rome will broadcast with Italian subtitles the concert given in February by the mixed faculty of the Zoltán Kodály Hungarian Choir School in the church space of the interactive exhibition for young people called #MindszentyÉletkapuk, in the Jesuit Dialogue House. .
