This is what Rod Dreher, a well-known American conservative publicist who is visiting Hungary as a guest researcher at the Danube Institute, told Mandiner. We took a look at the very interesting interview.
I am convinced (...) that the West is heading towards a new totalitarianism, which is still soft. But emigrants from the Eastern Bloc in America have been saying for years that something similar to what they have already experienced and fled from is developing in the United States.(...)
We need to build a real populist movement with serious legislative ideas and an adequate intellectual base. Donald Trump could also take part in this, but the discussions about him should be closed already. I say this not to like his personality, but the reality is that Trump is staying with us. In addition, the right-wing should build a hinterland through which the actors can support each other. The suppression of the right-wing
is just beginning;
we have to help each other to survive if we are fired, removed from virtual space or closed our bank account. (…)
The left is increasingly illiberal, and much more illiberal than the right is said to be illiberal. In America, masses of professors and university students are shrouded in silence, they don't dare to speak out because they are afraid of being fired and dragged away for their conservative or even liberal views. This is the prelude to totalitarianism. In Canada and California, they are already there to tune school children against their parents.(...)
Unfortunately, the woke craze is just as overwhelming and powerful as it looks. Partly because the media doesn't talk about it at all and ordinary people don't face it. They think it can't happen to them, it's just isolated cases. But that's not true. It is not necessary to fire everyone and delete them from the virtual space, it is enough to do it with a few people. A couple of example tattoos, and then everyone will shut up. I, on the other hand, receive letters every day from professors, students, and employees of multis, in which they describe how afraid they are and how they see woke-ism materializing in their workplace.
I can't believe this is happening in my country and all this fast! The BLM and lmbtq propaganda is extremely strong, if you go against them you are really in trouble. And nobody wants to get in trouble. People are very afraid of not getting into the middle class or falling out of it.
