An internet portal asked several districts of the capital and cities with county status to find out how much remuneration they have paid to local government leaders since the 2019 local government elections. In the first part of the series, the data from Miskolc, Pécs and Ferencváros were made public. It is written: while the opposition city leaders are talking about the fact that the government's austerity is making the operation of the settlement impossible, the local governments have paid out bonuses worth millions, it was said in the M1 News.

At the end of last year left-liberal mayor of Ferencváros Krisztina Baranyi that the government had forbidden municipalities to raise taxes or introduce new taxes. According to him, they would have needed this because the government measures taken due to the coronavirus epidemic put the municipalities in a difficult situation.

Krisztina Baranyi admitted on her social media page that they would have ripped off not only the bigger companies, but also the residents of the district, while she claimed in a post that they are starting to save on themselves.

However, savings were not rushed in the capital's IX. district managers - adataradar.hu found out. It is clear from the data requested by the portal that compared to 2019, the left-liberal leadership more than doubled the amount spent on rewarding the deputy mayors, clerks, sub-clerks, office managers and their deputies, and group leaders. The former increased from less than two million to more than five million forints, and the latter increased from 10.8 million to more than 23.5 million.

A in Miskolc led by Pál Veres , where there was talk recently that the city had almost gone bankrupt . Although the left-wing mayor tried to blame the government here, he wrote in a letter to the employees of Miskolc Holding Zrt. adataradar.hu found out: after the 2019 elections, the municipality of Miskolc distributed a Christmas bonus of around HUF 75,000 to its thirty employees .

The following year, on the other hand, only eight managers were recognized, with a total value of more than HUF 3.3 million. The biggest reward at that time was HUF 2.1 million, and 1.3 million was awarded to one person this year as well.

In Pécs, the city's opposition leadership also spoke of near-collapse conditions and austerity. Despite the alleged difficult situation, the amount of rewards has also increased. Compared to 1.8 million in December 2019, more than HUF 2.3 million were paid as bonuses to senior officials last year - adatradar.hu draws attention to this.

At the end of last year, the government limited the local business tax for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs to 1 percent. This left around HUF 150 billion for companies in a difficult situation due to the crisis. At the same time, the cabinet also decided to fully reimburse the lost tax revenue for settlements with less than 25,000 inhabitants.

Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás announced at the beginning of May that the government will provide HUF 23 billion in support to 32 settlements with over twenty-five thousand inhabitants. The rest will be supported by local investments aimed at restarting the economy.
