Last summer, the municipality of Csopak wanted to amend the building regulations of the settlement in favor of an investor who planned a large-scale development in Kerekedi Bay, despite the fact that the area is under nature protection. Last year, the Veszprém Government Office blocked the procedure, but this year the city's leaders are again trying to push through the reclassification, which the citizens are not leaving unsaid either.

The people of Csopaki are self-aware, tax-paying citizens. They did not accept that it is possible to amend the building regulations of the settlement without asking for their opinion, citing special rules due to the epidemic situation. Protests and open letters followed one another. They wanted to achieve at least one public hearing.

Csopak is an emblematic settlement in Balaton, as it is the seat of the National Park. If it is not possible to enforce the laws protecting nature in Csopak, what can we expect elsewhere? - writes the protest organizer Nők a Balatonért Egyesület (NABE) in a statement.

"Last year's case ended with the victory of nature. The reclassification procedure did not officially begin, because the authority, the Veszprém Government Office, informed the mayor that they do not support any reclassification. It seems to have been forgotten by now. The municipality again initiated the reclassification of the area so that economic buildings and residential buildings serving wine tourism could be built on it. So now we are starting the protest again. First of all, we recommend that a public hearing be held as soon as possible. In the meantime, we remind the municipality of the information provided by the chief architect of Veszprém last September: the state administrative bodies do not support the plans to develop the area." - says the association in the announcement.
