In 2021, the 16-25-year-olds studying full-time education will continue to gain work experience and income through the "Summer Student Work" program starting in June. The HUF 3 billion budget provided by the Ministry can contribute to the temporary employment of around 25,000 young people, announced Sándor Bodó, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology.
The ministry's secretary of state responsible for employment policy emphasized that the program runs from mid-June to the end of August this year, students can register at the relevant district or capital district office from June 15, and they can start work on July 1 at the earliest.
Since 2013, the Summer Student Work Program, which is now in its ninth year, has encouraged the vacation work of 210,000 high school and university students with more than HUF 20 billion. In one of this year's pillars, local government student work, territorial and settlement governments and their institutions performing basic local government activities, as well as religious and legal entities, can participate. If the students are employed for up to 6 hours per day, the employer receives the full wage, as a wage subsidy for a period of up to two months, explained Sándor Bodó.
Another pillar of the program supports the seasonal work of students in agriculture and tourism and hospitality, and in the latter area it can also help domestic businesses to overcome the difficulties caused by the coronavirus.
In the case of companies, employment of a maximum of 8 hours per day can be supported. As a wage subsidy, 75 percent of the wage will be reimbursed for a maximum of two months, the state secretary explained.
The monthly salary for jobs requiring professional qualifications is HUF 164,250 per person, and HUF 125,550 for those who do not require professional qualifications. In the case of employment with shorter working hours, the support is proportionally reduced. Further details can be found on the munka.hu page, he added.
Sándor Bodó highlighted that the youth unemployment indicators have also improved significantly in Hungary over the past decade. The unemployment rate of young people, which was close to 30 percent before 2010, has now fallen to less than half. Despite the epidemic situation, we were able to maintain favorable results even in European comparisons. Compared to the EU average of over 17 percent, the rate of youth unemployment in Hungary is 12.5 percent.
He added: "the government supports the employment of young people with several measures. Since last October, the Enterprise workforce support program has enabled the placement of nearly 7,000 jobseekers under the age of 25. In the expanded program starting in June, businesses employing young people looking for work can receive a total of up to HUF 600,000 for six months."
