Minister of Innovation and Technology László Palkovics invited Mayor Gergely Karácsony to a meeting on Monday morning regarding public transport in Budapest, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) informed MTI on Sunday.

According to the announcement, at the meeting scheduled for 8:00 a.m., the Minister of Innovation and Technology is ready to personally present to Gergely Karácsony the draft contract on the payment of the annual subsidy for public transport in Budapest. "If the invitation is accepted, the parties will be able to sign the version of the text, which is considered final from the government's point of view," they explained.

The ITM drew attention to the fact that the provision of local public transport is the primary task of the Budapest self-government as required by law. The central budget supports the fulfillment of this obligation with an annual contribution of HUF 12 billion.

They wrote: the ministry will create an opportunity to finalize the support contract with the meeting planned for Monday, for the sake of people traveling in Budapest. In the event of a successful negotiation, after the signature, the ministry will also take care of the payment in accordance with the agreement, the announcement reads.
