The European Parliament's rule of law report on Hungary became part of the election campaign in Italy, in which Giorgia Meloni, the prime ministerial candidate of the right-wing Italian Brothers, criticized the European Union's policy towards the eastern member states, speaking to Italian public radio on Friday.

Giorgia Meloni stressed that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán won elections several times and with broad support, according to the Hungarian constitutional rules. Hungary is a democracy - noted the leader of the Italian Brothers (FdI). He added that he had been informed that the European Parliament's decision on Thursday was also considered discriminatory in the ranks of the Hungarian opposition.

The politician commented on the Strasbourg plenary session in the morning political analysis program of the RAI1 radio channel, where the rule of law report on Hungary was adopted. The Italian Brothers belonging to the European Conservatives and Reformers (ECR) faction chaired by Giorgia Meloni, as well as the European representatives of the League, who are members of Identity and Democracy (ID), did not vote on the document.

The politician of the Italian Brothers explained, "Maybe we don't realize the situation we are in: in the midst of the conflict, it would be much wiser to bring European countries closer together than to distance them".

He added that he considers the report of the European Parliament (EP) to be a "strongly political" document.

Poland is also constantly attacked, while we are talking about the European state that takes on Ukrainian refugees without asking the European Union for a single euro, do we really want to continue on this path?

"NATO claims that Poland is risking war with Russia, and what are we doing about it in the Union? We attack Poland, as we do with Hungary. In a conflict situation, you have to assess what counts as primary," said Giorgia Meloni.
