Greece has developed stronger protection on the border after classifying Turkey as a safe third country, as part of this, sound cannons are deployed in the area of the Evrosz border river.
The police must handle things in their own way, said Greek Immigration Minister Nótisz Mitarakis Ylva Johansson stated at their joint press conference that the deployment of noise-making devices is a strange way of border protection.
At the beginning of June, the European Commission requested an explanation from the leadership of Athens, which shortly before announced the plan to deploy sound cannons. The equipment is mounted on two trucks and deployed in the area of the border river Évrosz. The authorities are using strong sound waves to prevent migrants from crossing the river from Turkey. The devices produce a noise of 162 decibels, which is about a third louder than a rumbling jet engine.
Johansson emphasized that the European Commission did not allocate resources for this. By the way, the EU body supports Greek border protection in a financial sense. "I hope all of this is in line with fundamental rights," said the EU commissioner, who says that this is exactly what they want to clarify at the moment.
