Amnesty International is organizing a demonstration against the anti-gay amendments to the pedophile law on Monday evening at 6 on Kossuth Square, in front of the Parliament.
The demonstration called "Acceptance instead of the Propaganda Act" was organized by Amnesty International Hungary, Budapest Pride, Háttér Társaság, Labrisz Lesbian Association, Hungarian Helsinki Committee, Prizma Közösség and the Rainbow Families Foundation after the government parties proposed several new additions to the regarding the anti-pedophile law package before the parliament.
The amendments include banning the promotion and presentation of homosexuality or gender reassignment to minors under the age of 18, including advertisements containing such. A part of civilians would be excluded from sexual education, only registered organizations and lecturers could give such presentations in schools.
"Children have the right to know the world in which they live. And in Hungary there are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex people." Dávid Vig, director of Amnesty International Hungary, said to RTL Hírado.
The organizers say that with the demonstration they are protesting against one of the most serious deprivations of rights in recent decades. "On Monday night, we are also protesting against the fact that the government is trying to conflate the perpetrators of unforgivable crimes against children with members of the LGBTQI community with the bill," they write.
