At 4:00 a.m. today, the Chain Bridge and its surroundings were completely closed to pedestrian and road traffic due to the renovation.
During the closure , public transport vehicles cannot drive over the bridge either, so the route of buses 16, 105, 178, 916 and 990 will change. A bus lane related to the replacement of the missing sections will be created on Hegyalja út, and a new express bus route will start with the 110E sign from Apor Vilmos tér to Bosnyák tér.
Construction work is expected to be completed in August 2023. During the reconstruction of the Chain Bridge, the road surface will be rebuilt, the sidewalks will be completely demolished and rebuilt. The remaining steel structures are repaired and protected against rusting. The monument railings will be renovated and restored, the pedestrian underpasses in the bridgeheads will be widened, and the stairs of the bridgeheads will be rebuilt.
In addition, they are restoring the stone lions and rebuilding the missing monument elements. New public lighting with LED technology and decorative lighting with variable colors will be installed, the flag-bearing bastions on the Pest quayside will be renovated , a pedestrian crossing will be established between the north and south sidewalks of the Pest bridgehead, and the utilities on the bridge will be replaced and regrouped.
