The next decade will be defined by epidemics and migration, and this will have a serious impact on European Christian democracy, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told the Croatian weekly Glas Koncila.
In an interview published on the newspaper's website, the prime minister explained about the International Eucharistic Congress: "even the Holy Father is not protected against fake news". According to the Hungarian point of view, the Holy Father is both head of state and church, and as head of state he deserves the greatest respect, and if he arrives as the head of the Catholic Church, we welcome him with Christian humility, he pointed out.
He said: the congress is not a Hungarian event, but an international event to be held in Hungary, to which the Pope will also visit. This left certain protocol questions open, thus opening a gap, he said. He added: "anti-Church and anti-Christian circles started to shoot into this gap".
Viktor Orbán said: there is indeed a difference of opinion between the Holy Father's opinion on migration and the government's position.
"We strongly oppose migration, and the Catholic Church has its own position", and it is very easy to create a story from this, according to which the Holy Father and the Hungarian Prime Minister "do not understand each other", "their positions do not match" and finally "meet they don't want either," he explained.
To the question of whether Hungary managed to be reborn in the past three decades, the Prime Minister answered: we cannot speak of a rebirth yet, although many things have changed, the country's spirit has also changed a lot. Life has a greater value, but it is not yet fully respected, he said. He added: Hungary is still a secular state that is looking for ways to God.
The Prime Minister said: In Hungary, there are atheists, anti-church people and liberals who do everything they can to prevent the spread of Christian values, they have the media, they are organized, they have strong civil associations. "However, we also have these on the conservative side - there are at least as many Christian media as anti-Christian, our civil organizations are at least as strong as theirs, maybe even stronger; we hold the political positions because we have a Christian government," he declared.
He also talked about: Christianity in Hungary is not a matter of choice, but of predetermination. There is a cultural, even a civilizational battle going on right now; the fight for the soul and future of Europe is here, it is happening here. That is why prayer is needed for complete Christian unity, because without cooperation we cannot keep Christianity in Europe, he emphasized.
Viktor Orbán emphasized: Christian Democratic politics also has a mandate in relation to Christian culture. Christianity created the free man, therefore human dignity must be protected first and foremost. Then Christianity created the Christian family, so the concept of the Christian family must be protected. In addition, Christianity also created nations in this part of the world, and the nation must be protected, he listed. He added: religious communities and the church must be protected. He believed that the great achievements of Christian civilization should be protected.
He said: when it comes to migration, if we want to help someone, we should not encourage them to stay away from their country as long as possible, but we should help them to return there as quickly as possible. He also recommends this position to the European Union: European military action, economic involvement, stabilization and the creation of normal living conditions in the affected areas, he said. He stated: migration does not happen spontaneously, but in an organized manner, based on political and business considerations, and the consequence will be that large masses of Muslims will arrive on the European continent.
Those who do not defend themselves will not recognize their country in 20 years, and the change will happen due to an external influence forced on them, he opined.
The prime minister also mentioned: "if you swim with the multicultural cordivat, you lose everything that is important in life".
Hungary is paying a high price for refusing to sign the Istanbul Convention and rejecting any support for Cold War politics; that he does not kick the Russian president along with the Westerners, but gives him the respect he deserves.
Because it protects the Christian family model; because "there is no room for LGBT madness"; he is paying a high price for his stance on migration and because he does not accept the Brussels bureaucracy, but wants to build Central European cooperation as a counterbalance. "But if we don't pay this price and don't represent our interests, maybe we will live more comfortably, but in the end we will lose a lot more," he believed.
