One could be sad, since the Hungarian national team was forced to say goodbye to the European football championship, which was partly organized in Hungary. It could be, but somehow it doesn't work. Thanks to the Creator - and to the Hungarian soccer players.
What we got from these guys is really uplifting and happy. They showed that you should never give up on anything, how much strength lies in cooperation and teamwork, and what miracles are possible for those who fight for their country.
However, after the draw, we could (should) have known that we had almost no chance against the top three teams in the world. It would have been possible to run out onto the field trembling with raised hands, since the entire Hungarian national team - in monetary terms - is not worth as much as each of the opponents' star players. It could have been, but the Hungarian players didn't do that. They brought their souls to the pitch, as they were fighting for the honor of their country, not for millions of euros. Because the homeland is still important to them, the Hungarian people who believed in them are important - and faith is capable of miracles.
There were, of course, Niedermüllers, those who supported the opponent, those who wanted to kneel before the "greats", who knows who the rainbow is. There were Hungarians who were never and never will be Hungarians. Don't bother with them, they are pitiful, or if you prefer, they are worthy of our contempt. However, we must not hate them, because hatred is their own, so that no one descends to their level , because from there it is impossible to climb back among the normal.
We should be happy that we were not only on the same level with the two best teams in the world, but we also won against the French and the Germans in every case. And let's be happy, because not only the footballers, but also the Hungarian fans proved: we are Europe!
We have nothing to fear from anyone, even if the opponent seems much stronger. Not even when they look down on us or even threaten us. Either on the football field or on the stage of politics. As Viktor Orbán said in his Facebook post after the match:
"And the times came when the Hungarians were no longer afraid. We are proud of you!
