We have reached 5.5 million vaccinated people in Hungary, the government announced on its Facebook page. With this, new epidemiological rules will come into effect, from Saturday, for example, the mandatory wearing of masks will cease and we will also need the protection card in fewer places.

On Friday, the country reached 5.5 million vaccinated people, so the following rules will come into effect from Saturday (the government decree on the sixth stage of the gradual lifting of protection measures was published in the Magyar Közlöny on Wednesday):

After 5.5 million vaccinated:

  • with the exception of hospitals and social institutions, the mandatory wearing of masks will cease, and masks will not have to be worn in public areas (masks are no longer required in public areas), in shops and on public transport. At the same time, the use of masks cannot be prohibited for anyone,
  • even without a protection card, you will be free to enter catering shops, accommodation, leisure facilities, and cultural events and performances organized with auditoriums with reserved seats,
  • the restrictions on shops will be lifted (the 10 sqm/customer and the social distancing rule),
  • in the case of family events and private events, the previous limit of 50 people will be increased to 100 people, and in the case of weddings, the limit of 200 people will be increased to 400 people,
  • sports events, music and dance events, and other events held indoors or outdoors with more than 500 people will not be relaxed, the current rules will remain in place, i.e. the number of people will remain limited at these events and participation will only be possible with a protection card. Those under the age of 18 can only participate in these events with a protection card or under the supervision of a protected person,
  • universities and colleges can also prepare to restore attendance education.

When lifting the restrictions, the government took into account the results of the previous national consultation and the opinion of the Hungarian people on the step-by-step restart.

In addition to the mitigations, the attention of those who have not yet been vaccinated is again drawn to the fact that the virus continues to spread in Europe and is still present in Hungary.
