According to tradition, the Danish flag fell from the sky in 1219 and helped the Danes triumph during a crusade in Estonia. Nowadays, the national flag is again waving in every window, all in connection with the successful participation of the national team in the football EC. But the Danish writer Harald Toksværd is deeply offended by this kind of nationalism, writes the Danish correspondent of Erdély.ma.
"The Danish flag has flown proudly over slave camps, burning women and blood-soaked battlefields, as well as a symbol of all kinds of political, economic, sexual and religious oppression. In fact, it is a symbol of hatred and inhumanity, the root of Danish nationalism. The Danish flag was painted red by the blood of the enemy, while our self-righteous innocence colors the cross on it white," read his discussion post published on Politiken's website.
The writer also gave an interview on Danish public television, in which the following statement can be heard: "The Danish flag is a nationalistic symbol, its use makes it narrow-minded."
Torben Kjersgaard Nielsen , history lecturer at Aalborg University, author of the book "Danish flag" (Dannebrog), admits that its history is connected to the symbol associated with the slave trade and wars. At the same time, the first trade union movement also used the Danish national flag, which fought to improve the conditions of the working class. The Danish right prefers to use the flag as a symbol.
Harald Toksværd also looks at the Danish People's Party with a critical eye. Pia Kjærsgaard , the party's founder, said: Not all flag-waving people vote for us. This shit is ridiculous. A bitter fate awaits this wretched figure who tarnishes our flag. He adds: the Danish national side does not wish to appropriate the flag.
The Danish flag is everywhere in Denmark. On birthdays, christenings, weddings, in the gardens of family houses, not only on holidays, but even on weekdays in the kitchen of a dormitory, students bravely wave it between two beers.
Left-liberals are increasingly attacking the use of national flags. Recently, the American correspondent of Erdély.ma wrote: the black-skinned Macy Gray , the famous American singer, wants a new American flag because it bothers her that some of the symbols on the flag are white.
