Let's first take a look at the original meaning of this structure, its sabbatical application! László Németh writes in the foreword to his collection of essays entitled The Experimental Man about how the joy of experimenting can transform what life has imposed on him as a burden, a problem or a blow; what for others is boredom, a robot, a frustrating trap, can become a toy, a laboratory before a watchful, world-exploring attention". We also read from him, dated 1941, in which he praises Ostrovsky's play: "The Whirlpool is about what most good dramas in Eastern Europe are about: the heavily bound communal existence, in which the more sensitive heart languishes for a long time and suddenly collapses."
speaks (about something) is precise and accurate , and this is its meaning: 'a written work whose subject is someone, something'.
word about something appears without a collar . Because if we exaggerate the use of the figurative sense, it will result in gray, commonplace writing and speech: "the amendment is about the fact that all competitors must take a photo of themselves"; "admission is about getting into the university"; " everything at the conference will be about new trends and technologies"; "Your wedding night is no longer always about sex "; "Friday's game is about finding out where we stand"; " what is about ?". In descriptive and meaningful words: the amendment consists in ...; the admission rate is that…; the subject and theme of the entire conference will be ( they will talk about it throughout the conference, they will give lectures about it, they will explain that ...); sex is no longer always the essential part , meaning, purpose, essence ; at the end of the match it becomes clear, outlined (the match shows, proves ): where we are; what exactly is the feast of Pentecost, what is its content ?
On a previous occasion, we talked about the story as a buzzword (that is, the use of this word has become common in today's language even when there is no sequence of events, no story). It also happens that these two fashion expressions are connected by the use of language: "The story is about vehicles being banned from this area," I read in the press. However, there is no story here, and it is not about anything... a measure, a provision , and its purpose , its essence , is to ban vehicles from the area.
And what is this "story" about? It's not "about" anything. Let's rather say that it is the core of the mentioned problem : the speaker often uses the speaking about something . It is a meaningful linguistic element in its place, but if it "gets lost" - as we have cited numerous examples of this - it is reduced to a trite buzzword. It should therefore be replaced by a meaningful lexeme. A whole series of related expressions help the speaker in this. Anyone who does not hesitate to visit our rich storehouse of synonyms and draw from it...
