The Visegrad Four (Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland) are interested in each other's success, stability and rise; "this conviction will lead the Hungarian V4 presidency in the next one year," declared the chairman of the Parliament's foreign affairs committee in a telephone interview with MTI on Saturday.

Zsolt Németh spoke about this after holding a forum at the Gombaszög Summer Camp with Martin Klus, State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and József Berényi, former State Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, on the relationship between the V4 Presidency, Central Europe and the European Union.

According to the Fidesz politician, the presenters agreed that it is necessary to strengthen Central Europe, and an important component of this is to create connections between the countries, especially in the field of infrastructure. At the same time, the deepening of economic and trade relations was also called crucial by the parties - highlighted Zsolt Németh.

As he added, they also agreed that the great value of the Visegrad cooperation is that it is based on volunteerism, so the countries cooperate on topics in which they have common interests. "This experience has proven to be very functional over the past thirty years," emphasized Zsolt Németh.

The chairman of the committee also emphasized that another important connecting element between the V4 countries is that they regard freedom as a value and reject external constraints. "Historical experience also encourages us to do so, (...) but even today we can see manifestations on the part of the EU that can be considered a kind of external coercion," he said.

The chairman of the foreign affairs committee also reported that no agreement was reached during the forum only on the question of citizenship, as the Hungarian government is still thinking about securing dual citizenship for Hungarians in the highlands. At the same time, Zsolt Németh continued, the Slovak State Secretary emphasized the openness to further negotiations and the need to amend the current law, and that if there is a Hungarian parliamentary representation in Slovakia again, then "they will be able to find a satisfactory answer to this question".
