The hunger strike of hundreds of Brussels migrants threatens the unity of the Belgian government coalition, Politico wrote. The protest was launched in order to obtain a formal residence permit after living in Belgium for years, Mandiner reports.

Six protesters sewed their mouths shut, five attempted suicide, and several refused to drink water.

Everyone from the UN to Roger Waters to a famous French cultural festival raised their heads. Yet, Belgium's migration office made it clear that nothing could be done. Because of this position, the Belgian leadership has been accused by many of ignoring the impending humanitarian crisis. Because of the same position, the governing coalition of Belgium may also split.

On Monday, several left-wing parties announced that they would leave the coalition if even one migrant died. Presumably to give in to the strikers.
