Insider.com has put together a database that can be used to track the stories in which LGBTQ characters appeared on different channels, 888.hu wrote.

According to the portal's article, the less obvious illustration or implicit representation of LGBTQ identities has long been observed in animated children's series. They note: more direct or explicit display is becoming more common, especially in the last decade. Insider also conducted a historical review. As they write, the first animated film for children in their database in which a confirmed LGBTQ character appears was SuperTed.

SuperTed is a British fairy tale, it was introduced in 1983. It aired on the Disney Channel and featured a non-openly gay character, Skeleton, who was often made to do evil things. Skeleton's confirmation took the longest, with 31 years after the show's debut, creator Mike Young identified the character's sexual orientation in a 2014 interview with the Radio Times.

LGBTQ characters have continued to increase year after year, peaking in 2019 when a total of 74 debut or confirmed LGBTQ characters were found. This represents a 222 percent increase compared to 2017.

The most LGBTQ characters, 39 to be exact, have been identified in Steven Universe. Steven Universe debuted in Hungary in 2014.

Regarding service providers:

on Cartoon Network at 19,

on Netflix 14,

on Disney Channel 9,

there were 7 LGBTQ stories on Nickelodeon.

Insider found that cisgender human or human-hybrid women, as well as non-human women, make up about 39 percent of the characters in their database.
