On August 3, in the evening hours, a person was swept away by the Danube from Margitsziget. The guard on duty of the Parliament Guard at the House of Representatives spotted the man hobbling in the water under Margit Bridge.
He immediately notified the disaster protection and the Vizi police, and then they kept talking to him from the shore and tried to control him. All this in the presence of an increasingly large audience. The fire patrol of the Parliament Guard reached the scene the fastest, swam into the Danube, and with a safety rope and a life-saving ring, the person was rescued with civilian help.
With this heroic act and their outstanding standing, they averted a threat to their lives. The man was taken care of by the unit of the National Ambulance Service, which arrived on the scene in the meantime, and transported to the Honvéd Hospital for examination. The President of the Parliament and the Commander of the Parliament Guard expressed their appreciation to the executors of the rescue operation.
The staff of the Parliament Guard has rescued people from the Danube every year so far, most recently a 17-year-old young man on July 14, 2021.
