Court decision: a child from a mixed Hungarian-Romanian relationship must attend a Romanian kindergarten. As Transidex reports, the Cluj Court recently decided to uphold the claim of the father of Romanian ethnicity .

According to G4media's report, a strange court decision was made in Cluj-Napoca in the past few days. In the case of a 3-year-old boy whose mother is Hungarian and whose father is Romanian, it was decided that he should attend a Romanian-language kindergarten. The decision is not final and can still be appealed.

When the child reached kindergarten age, a dispute arose between the parents about which language kindergarten he should be enrolled in. The woman wanted him to go to a Hungarian-language school, but the man opposed this, citing the reason that the child would be at a disadvantage because of this, for example it would be more difficult for him to find a job on the labor market. Since the ex-partners could not reach an agreement, the father went to court.

The mother told MTI: both parents spoke to the child in his native language, so the little boy speaks Romanian and Hungarian equally well. The Hungarian and Romanian speech therapy examination ordered by the court also established that the child speaks both languages better than the majority of his peers.

"The argument that the child will not have a future if he attends a Hungarian kindergarten or a Hungarian school is extremely disturbing. I went to a Hungarian kindergarten and a Hungarian school, and despite that, I graduated with excellent results from the same law school in Romanian as the child's father. As a legal adviser, I stand before the judge in the same way as he does. I did not have any disadvantages from studying Hungarian. In fact, it really benefits the child if he gets to know two cultures. And you have a chance to get to know Hungarian culture if you go to a Hungarian kindergarten or a Hungarian school. You will also get to know Romanian culture in Hungarian educational institutions".

He added that all three judgments handed down in the case so far reiterate that the Hungarian-language kindergarten is a disadvantage for the child. As she stated, she considers this unacceptable and is waiting for the justification of the judgment to see what further legal steps she can take in order to teach her child in Hungarian.
