The Hungarian government recently responded to the sexual attack of the European Commission, expressing our serious concern that the Commission, as an increasingly politicized organization, sets goals for which it otherwise has no authority - this is what Justice Minister Judit Varga wrote in her opinion article published in EUobserver.
While reading the 2021 report on the rule of law, it was astonishing to see how the principle of the rule of law was transformed into a tool of political blackmail, wrote Judit Varga , and asked the question: When will the European Commission finally end its operation as a political body?
"The Commission has long since forgotten the principles and morals of the founding fathers of the community, and it seems that it now follows only one principle when it comes to the rule of law: utilitarianism. To achieve his own ends, it seems as if all means are sacred. Only one factor is missing, the legality itself. Rules and contracts no longer matter. And those member states who believe in sovereignty and the principle of subsidiarity, those who are not willing to fall in line, must be punished - as Helena Dalli, the Commissioner responsible for equality, put it very bluntly. These are the real questions about the rule of law in the European Union today. With its second report on the rule of law, the committee, insisting on the role it defined itself, presented a highly politicized document based on double standards and vaguely founded criticisms, which, moreover, does not even include what the authors themselves express as wishes, wrote the Minister of Justice. According to Judit Varga, the underlying motivation is obvious: a self-serving political smear campaign against Hungary, disguised as a legal assessment, simply because for us the protection of our children and families is a priority. In order to do this, contrary to the expectations of some interest groups, we are not even willing to allow the LGBTQ lobby into our schools and kindergartens." - believes the minister
Since the report consistently ignores the position of the Hungarian government, moreover, it contains absurd factual errors and relies almost exclusively on the politically motivated opinions of non-governmental organizations financed from abroad - or by the Commission itself - it cannot serve as the basis for further EU proceedings, Judit Varga continued .
Judith Varga is also concerned that the Commission does not check its own claims, and does not attach any justification or support to them. Compared to other member states, the report's evaluations clearly reflect a double standard towards Hungary. The Commission is even more obviously exceeding its powers, as it would expect Hungary's independent constitutional bodies to make decisions that the Commission deems desirable in some specific cases, regardless of both the facts and the applicable rules. This is an abuse of power on the part of the European Commission.
