Recently, a particularly bad, know-it-all language has been developing in the EU institutions, even though the countries did not join the union so that the EU commissioners would constantly exercise democratic censorship over them, Peter Gauweiler, the former vice-president of the Christian Social Union (CSU), told Kossuth in an interview given to the Sunday newspaper program.

In relation to the fact that the Dutch Prime Minister suggested that Hungary should leave the European Union, Peter Gauweiler said: Mark Rutte's statement is not appropriate at all, and even a few weeks ago his personality was so controversial in his own country that no one wanted to join a coalition with him and "only avoided his own political death with great difficulty".

In response to the statement of the former president of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) that Hungary would not be admitted to the EU, he said: Martin Schulz also said that the European Union itself would not be admitted either, because it would not meet the requirements due to its current democratic shortcomings. of his own criteria, with which, according to the former CSU vice-president, Schulz openly criticized the union itself.

Peter Gauweiler put it this way: " Viktor Orbán has more legitimacy than all EU commissioners combined"...

...In connection with the Hungarian Child Protection Act and the LGBTQ community, he said: the debate is actually about whether gay people should have the same rights and even marry. He added: opinions about this are divided not only in Hungary, but in all countries of the world...

...He mentioned that he had read Viktor Orbán's publication called Szamizdat, in which the Prime Minister writes about the fact that LGBTQ people can live freely in Hungary, and he hopes that this is still the case....

…He also talked about the existence of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg, which has nothing to do with the EU, nor with the European Commission and the Court of Justice of the European Union based in Luxembourg. He reminded: in the Treaty of Lisbon, EU member states, including Hungary and Germany, obliged the European Commission to sign the European Convention on Human Rights as an institution, but this has not happened to date. However, the dispute arising in connection with the Child Protection Act would also belong to the ECHR, not to the committee.

When asked about the EU withholding reconstruction fund payments because of the child protection law, Peter Gauweiler said: there are many people who do not think the position of the committee is correct, and many people say so openly, including himself. The European Commission should not intervene in this matter, as it is not called to do so.

He also recalled that in the German parliament, the Bundestag, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called gay marriage unconstitutional in 2017 , and then she herself voted against gay marriage. The former CSU vice-president put it this way: then he did nothing, he let things take their course and said that this was an individual decision of the representatives.

He also reminded that back in 2002-2003, the spokesperson of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) said in the Bundestag that "gay marriage should not be referred to as marriage based on a man-woman relationship, because a table will never be a chair."

Peter Gauweiler put it this way: we are over this today and we can accept it, but we have to tolerate it if other countries have a different opinion.

The politician also touched on the fact that, in his opinion, the debate about rainbow flags before the European football championship match in Munich was clearly against Hungary, which made him feel ashamed. The Hungarians didn't deserve to use a football match for political purposes and try to make the otherwise excellent football players and fans into a disgrace.
