According to Katalin Novák's statement, the amount of subsidies paid for renovation exceeded HUF 20 billion, and families have also applied for HUF 24 billion in budget interest-subsidized home renovation loans.

The government introduced the tax in 2015, as part of the home creation program, the VAT on newly built properties was reduced from 27 to 5 percent from January 2021, and those who bought a new home with the tax can claim the VAT back, he reminded.

He added that notary fees have been reduced, properties purchased with a tax are tax-free, larger subsidies can be applied for the construction of multi-generational homes - corresponding to the amount of the tax paid after the construction or purchase of a new apartment, and the home renovation subsidy has been introduced, for which a discounted home renovation loan - a maximum of six million forints - can be taken out . The latter was used by five thousand families by the end of June, he wrote.
