Máriapócs is a sanctuary of peace and reconciliation, which is why it has been able to contribute to the development of other cultures for centuries - stressed István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, in the context of the sacred liturgy held at this year's Máriapócs farewell.

He added: the Máriapócs shrine is a prominent built heritage of our country, and the Máriapócs funeral is the spiritual legacy of the Greek Catholics of the Carpathian Basin.

In June, the Hungarikum Committee decided to add the Máriapócs shrine and the farewell to the Hungarikum Collection.

István Nagy also reminded that when II. Pope János Pál visited Máriapócs and greeted the different nationalities in their native languages. The Pope also indicated that all national minorities have the right to use their mother tongue.

The minister highlighted: Máriapócs has been the meeting point of Eastern and Western churches for centuries, a bridge between different nationalities. At the end of his speech, the minister handed over the certificate certifying the Máriapócs shrine and almshouse to Archbishop Fülöp Kocsis.
