The Golden Train comes to life again! – Alexandra Szentkirályi published the following lines and pictures on her Facebook page:
The St. Stephen's Day program series on August 20 is also enriched by the Promenade of Cities exhibition. In Alkotmány utca, you will be able to see the Golden Train, which is a replica of the train that traveled around historical Hungary in 1938 with the relic of Saint Jobb.
The assembly was destroyed in the Second World War, but with the involvement of existing plans and historians, they were able to rebuild it authentically, practically in a form almost identical to the original.
Few people know that the original ornamental car was not a newly manufactured railway car, but a guide car rebuilt to transport Szent Jobb. Its reconstruction is also unique worldwide, a similar reconstruction has not yet taken place anywhere. Its unique character is also due to the fact that, in addition to contemporary construction characteristics, the rules of modern railway traffic were also taken into account during the work.
We can evaluate the reconstruction of the Golden Train as an extraordinary achievement and also a milestone in Hungarian railway history, as we can transmit a unique value to posterity. The work process contained really exciting details, for example, the so-called Dreher car Da 6404, which is very similar to the original and can still be seen in the Railway History Park, was used to create the period interior.
In order to ensure long-term and flexible usability, the program stipulated that the ornamental car should not only function as a stationary exhibition object, but should be able to become widely known and presented throughout the country by being moved and connected to railway traffic.
