Sándor Komócsin, a journalist from napi.hu, in his article entitled "Hungary has fallen into an incomprehensible epidemic pit" , is puzzled by the fact that while the number of coronavirus infections has increased in neighboring countries, Hungary seems to be in an almost virus-free hole. According to him, there are several possible explanations for the strange phenomenon, but none of them include the fact that the Hungarian government did something right after all.
In contrast to the increasing number of cases across Europe - the number of people infected with the delta variant has doubled in Bulgaria and tripled in Kosovo - the presence of the virus is barely noticeable in Hungary, the epidemiological authorities register only 80-90 new cases per day. And according to napi.hu, even the epidemiologists do not understand this.
Let's look at the opposition's explanations!
We are isolated, much more than, for example, our Austrian or Czech neighbors, fewer Hungarians travel abroad, just as not so many tourists visit our country.
Due to Covid, it is obvious that international tourism could not return to normal even this year, but it is hard to believe that this is only a Hungarian specificity, not least because on the one hand we are not doing badly in terms of vaccination coverage, and on the other hand, according to bilateral agreements, many European countries its gates are open to Hungarian tourists, and many took the opportunity to finally spend the summer abroad again after last year's break. Isolation is therefore a forced rather than a real explanation of the phenomenon.
Legendaryly, few tests are done in Hungary, so it is possible that the spread of the virus is actually much stronger than the data shows. Delta often causes a mild illness in younger people. Thus, anyone who notices some fever and other cold-like symptoms, and has otherwise received a vaccination, probably does not consult a doctor, and thus their illness cannot be registered.
Then let's run to him one more time: would this also be as specific to Hungary as isolation? The body of a Czech, German, or Austrian young person who has received the vaccine, tell me, to what extent does it behave differently than that of a Hungarian? Will Czech, German and Austrian young people go to the doctor even with mild or non-existent symptoms, just so they can be registered as infected, as opposed to Hungarians?
It is a Hungarian peculiarity, the situation was exactly the same last year: before the twentieth of August, there was practically only one outbreak in the country, in Veszprém county. This may be explained by the fact that we have less contact in the summer, mainly because everyone is with their families.
Yes, festivals and mass events are characterized by a family atmosphere, where young and old spend time only in a close family circle.
Of course, we understand that it is difficult for the liberals to sew a button on the situation, they are sweating like a lady in church, but at the same time, it is amusing how the obvious is not even included in the list of explanations at the option level: the Hungarians have been vaccinated with many more vaccines than anyone else in Europe.
Sándor Komócsin therefore does not understand why the number of new infections in our country is negligible, and how the country could end up in a virus-free hole. If people were to drop like flies, it would be very understandable...
