In Romania, every fifth married couple struggles with infertility symptoms, yet Romanian state support is out of reach for most of those involved. However, Hungarian state support, which can be applied for through the Áldás Népesség Egyesület, can be of great help to parents who wish to have children. The demand for specialist clinics is increasing. Among active couples, the rate of infertility is close to 20 percent. So far, 26 children have been born thanks to the support.
One of the important undertakings of the Áldás Népesség Egyesület began four years ago in the framework of the Hungarian Days in Cluj, said the head of the association Simon Csaba.
"The guest of the Hungarian Days was László Kövér , with whom the bishops of the historical Hungarian churches had lunch. On behalf of the association, I myself participated in the meeting, where we dealt a lot with the development of the demographic situation in Transylvania. I pointed out that many Transylvanian Hungarian couples are struggling with infertility, and they cannot pay for the associated treatments. The Romanian public health system provides support, but the waiting list is so long that most applicants have no chance of getting in line , so they cannot pay the 12,000 lei fee for the medical intervention.
My suggestion was followed by lively interest. The church leaders said that it would be worthwhile to extend a smaller part of the sums spent on the extensive infertility treatment programs in Hungary to Transylvania. László Kövér listened to our suggestions and promised to act on the matter. In the following year, we received the first HUF five million grant to start the program," says the head of the association.
In 2019, they announced their new program under the title I also want a child for married couples between the ages of 25 and 35 who have been unable to conceive a child naturally for a shorter or longer time. In the first round, 25 married couples applied, but due to limited financial resources, only six could be included in the program. From the point of view of the expected pregnancy and childbirth, the launch ended with promising results: in the first year, four of the six married couples had children: three families received twins, and the fourth couple had a baby girl. The interventions took place at the Zygota Maros Infertility Clinic in Marosszentgyörgy, near Marosvásárhely, whose results are among the best among Romanian medical institutions dealing with infertility treatments.
