According to Origo , after seven years of litigation, the court awarded a transgender man, Gavin Grimm, $1.3 million in damages from his former school, which forbade him to use the toilet that was consistent with his transgender identity. Although the case dates back to 2014, the teenager turned to a lawyer because of the rejection, and the case reached the Supreme Court, which rejected the school board's appeal, as the institution continued to try to prohibit transgender students from using the restroom they wanted. The Gloucester County School Board was then ordered to pay $1.3 million in legal fees and damages.
