The new main building of the Charity Hospital of the Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz) on Amerikai út, which was created during a reconstruction worth one and a half billion forints, was handed over.
At the handover ceremony, Miklós Kásler , the Minister of Human Resources, reminded us that the government provided approximately HUF 5 billion in support for the complete reconstruction and expansion of the charity hospital.
During the second phase of the renovation of the love hospital, the building that was returned from the Uzsoki Utcai Hospital in 1994 was renovated and the diagnostic and outpatient care department was located here, as well as the rehabilitation department with sixty beds.
Miklós Kásler said that before the Holocaust, there were four Jewish hospitals in Budapest: the one on Szabolcs Street, the one on Maros Street, the one on Városmajor Street, and the Charity Hospital, which was founded in 1914. The hospital was nationalized in 1952, but one of its two annexes, the asylum, was not, the charity hospital has been operating here ever since. The other - now renovated - annex was returned to the church in 1994.
He recalled that "it was a very important moment" in the process of the complete restoration of the hospital that in 2017 Viktor Orbán and András Heisler, the president of Mazsihisz, agreed that the government would also support the reconstruction.
Recently, the president of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, thanked the prime minister in a letter for the support of the love hospital, added the head of the ministry.
Miklós Kásler declared: "with this exemplary development, the church hospitals as a whole have been strengthened".
As he said, the churches have the spiritual surplus and the spiritual approach, as well as the conditions that "make them suitable to take care of our neighbors better than anyone else." This is especially true in our increasingly impersonal world.
Nowadays, there is a great demand for holistic healing, when during healing not only physical changes are dealt with, but also the whole person - the soul as well - noted the head of the ministry.
András Heisler emphasized: thanks to the complex renovation, the love hospital, which is the only Jewish hospital in Central Europe, will be transformed into a modern, 21st century health care institution.
The HUF 4.8 billion state subsidy is closely related to the government's intention to assign a significant role to the hospitals operating in the maintenance of historical churches in the domestic health sector, he said.
András Heisler noted that the contractor completed the renovation on time and without exceeding the costs.
Jakov Hadasz-Handelszman, the ambassador of Israel in Budapest, spoke about the fact that every society owes its members good care.
The hospital, which treats Jews and non-Jews, is of outstanding importance for Hungarian Jewry. Survivors of the emergency hospital are also treated here.
Shemesh Assaf, the director of the charity hospital, said that the renovated building has a floor area of 2,300 square meters. The new wing housed the outpatient clinics, there is a rehabilitation department with 60 beds, and offices and spaces for education were also created.
According to the published press material, the architectural cost of the investment was 1.5 billion forints, and the cost of the equipment and equipment was 500 million forints.
