According to some opposition parties, the Metropolitan Municipality is supporting Gergely Karácsony's primary election campaign with public funds.
Atv.hu reported that at the last meeting of the National Primary Election Committee, which coordinates the primary election, there was a heated debate about the information campaign of the Metropolitan Municipality. The paper writes: in the end, a decision was not reached because only three of the six opposition parties believe that the information campaign can represent publicly funded intervention in the primary election process. The campaign, which is about recent developments in Budapest, was evaluated by several parties as
The Metropolitan Municipality is supporting the primary election campaign of Gergely Karácsony with public funds.
The telephone campaign has already started. In the telephone campaign, the voice of Gergely Karácsony informs the people of Budapest about recent events in the capital. In the debate, the parties supporting the mayor argued that the local government started the information campaign in response to the disparaging Fidesz campaign against the city administration, with which they would inform the citizens of Budapest about the results achieved in the last two years. However, the OEVB delegates of DK, Jobbik and Momentum assessed this as the fact that the information campaign financed with public money could represent an intervention in the primary election process,
therefore, these three parties suggested that the OEVB request information from the capital's leadership about the campaign, but the delegates of the MSZP, Párbeszéd and LMP did not support this.
While MSZP party director Zsolt Molnár confirmed the fact of the dispute to the paper, Jobbik delegate Gábor Szabó did not comment on the matter, referring to the agreement reached between the opposition parties.
According to some sources of atv.hu, the MSZP objected at the meeting that, in their opinion, the DK published a Facebook ad discrediting the other prime ministerial candidates, but this latter information was denied by another informant.
