This year, the Székely Day is organized for the seventh time in Debrecen. The location will be the DESz24 yard on Batthyány Street. On Saturday, September 14, visitors will be treated to an all-day event.
The purpose of the event is to present the cultural values and contemporary challenges of the Székely region. That is why, in addition to the presentation of religious, literary, musical, gastronomic, cultural history programs and civil initiatives, it also does not avoid the issue of territorial self-determination in Székelyföld.
Entry to the program, which starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 10 p.m., is free! Those who wish, however, can support the work of the Székely National Council by purchasing a 2,000 HUF supporter's ticket!
Supporter tickets also serve as a raffle: you can win the publications of Transylvanian Járók Közhasznú Egyesület with them. You can read more about the programs and how even those who cannot attend the event can support this cause here.
There are great events in Debrecen, and the summer of 2021 has shown that there is a demand for culture, both easy and less easy, says András Csíki, president of the non-profit association Transylvanian Visitors. - Many kinds of people live in Cívisváros: natives from Debrecen, university students from faraway parts of the world, people from Transdanubia, Transylvania, Partium, Székely, Highlands, Subcarpathians, Southern Regions who have found a home here. I think one of the greatest feelings of human life is the feeling of "being at home": in a family, an apartment, a landscape, a culture, a nation. The people of Székely are "at home" even if many of us live far from our homeland. We are at home, for example, in Hungarian culture, in the Hungarian nation, and it feels good that here in Debrecen there are also many cultural workshops dealing with Székely music, folk songs, and dances, many people visit the fairy-tale landscapes of Székelyföld and make friends with them and the people who live there - I really like listening to the reports.
The program includes a Transylvania knowledge contest, archery, a documentary film about the Úz Valley, Székely kitchen and garden, a falconry demonstration, Székely folk songs, and several music concerts.
The organizers of the large-scale program, Borostyán Produkció and the Non-profit Association of Transylvanian Visitors, welcome everyone.
