The mission of the Hungarians is to protect the Carpathian basin, but the West has already lost its mission, Viktor Orbán stated in his article entitled Szamizdat 12., published on the Prime Minister's website on Monday.
Viktor Orbán recalled that Timothy Garton Ash, a professor at Oxford University, criticized Hungary and the government; he spoke of an "other Europe", which he describes as dangerous for the European Union (EU).
"In my opinion, there really is a Central European cultural, intellectual and political entity that is increasingly different from the Western European one, but this is not a danger, not a threat, but a boon for the European Union and even for Western Europe"
- said the Hungarian Prime Minister, adding: Timothy Garton Ash's harsh criticism inspired his presentation, which tries to capture the intellectual essence of today's European debates in categories that can be interpreted by Western readers, "as we see it".
