President Ákos Makláry personally handed over HUF six million support offered by KÉSZ members to Mrs. Anita Herczegh, the chairman of the board of trustees of the István Regőczi Foundation.

President János Áder established a foundation named after father István Regőczi, the savior of orphans he called eagle cubs, to help children left orphaned or semi-orphaned as a result of the coronavirus epidemic.

The Association of Christian Intellectuals immediately started collecting donations among its members as soon as it was informed of the intention to create the foundation, the president of KÉSZ told Ms. Anita Herczegh. - It was important for us to act quickly. Our community of more than three thousand people moved as one upon hearing the call. Offerings ranging from two thousand to five hundred thousand forints were received from nearly two hundred donors, including individuals and businesses.

At the meeting held in the Office of the President of the Republic, Ákos Makláry referred to the various forms of fundraising: there was a KÉSZ group that organized a charity concert, some offered their membership fee income, others visited members from door to door. In fact, the wife of a man who died of the coronavirus asked the grieving family members to transfer the price of the flowers intended for the funeral to the benefit of the orphans. "These selfless offerings are not just acts of solidarity, but expressions of Christ's love: 'Whatever you do for one of the least of these, you do for me,'" emphasized the president.

Anita Herczegh gratefully accepted the six million two hundred thousand HUF donation letter on behalf of the Regőczi Foundation and thanked all the donors.

When we learned at the beginning of the year that more than four hundred children had already been orphaned due to the coronavirus epidemic, we knew we needed a solution that would provide long-term professional help to those in need. That's why we created an independent foundation, the task of which is to support orphaned or semi-orphaned children until they reach adulthood or finish their studies - Ms. Anita explained the genesis of the Foundation. He said: the Regőczi Foundation was able to experience the good-willed helpfulness of the Hungarian people. Many small and large companies and many individuals also support their goal. As founders, it is important for them that every forint goes to where help is needed. This is helped by the website (regoczialapitvany.hu), where all information is available both for those in need and for donors.

In order to provide even more effective assistance, cooperation agreements were concluded with larger charitable organizations. At the moment, their primary task is the distribution of emergency aid, but soon they will be able to accept not only monetary but also material and service offerings.

At the meeting, Ákos Makláry thanked the self-doubters involved in the foundation's affairs for their work and assured Ms. Anita that they could continue to count on the support of KÉSZ.
