According to Péter Hack, what Karácsony threatened in the debate is customary in communist dictatorships, since no prime minister can order anyone to freeze assets.

"Prof. Dr. Péter Hack also responded to Gergely Karácsony's asset freeze idea. According to him, this cannot be done in a state of law"

– wrote Tamás Cs. Király on his Facebook page.

Péter Hack considers Gergely Karácsony's claims to be totally absurd and to resemble the methods of communism. The Prime Minister cannot order the freezing of assets in any way. The Minister of the Interior can do this through the police in cases where criminal proceedings are ongoing, but even then the approval of the prosecutor's office is required. If the prosecutor does not override it, the court can still do so. However, neither the prime minister nor the minister can intervene in the criminal proceedings, Péter Hack said.
