"The wife of Ferenc Gyurcsány stated that if someone tells her one more time that left-wing governments have put the country in debt, she will be very angry. The facts will still remain facts, so he will be angry today, the finance minister wrote on his Facebook page.
In summary: more than a decade ago, the reason for the indebtedness was that the Gyurcsány government, with its faulty economic policy in the years before the crisis, made the budget, municipalities and households indebted to foreign countries. Then, instead of crisis management, austerity measures were introduced, further deepening the crisis.
On the other hand, today Hungary is standing on its own two feet even after a pandemic, independent of international organizations and able to finance itself from the market. We are not dealing with the crisis with austerity, but with subsidies: there will be funds for tax cuts, family subsidies, and restarting the economy. And the temporarily rising debt - as we did between 2010 and 2020 - will be put back on a downward path with a consistent and responsible budget policy."
