On the centenary of its establishment, the Királyhágómenti Református Egyházkerület (KRE) remembered the trials of the past hundred years and took stock of its fruits, the Maszol news portal reported.
After the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic, the General Convention of the Hungarian Reformed Church (GK) met for the first time, consisting of the deans and guardians of the counties of the associated church bodies.
The bishops and chief guardians of the Magyar Református Egyház (MRE), members of the GK, ecclesiastical and lay leaders, pastors and guardians of the KRE, representatives of the women's associations of the MRE participated in a memorial service in the yard of the Reformed bishopric of Nagyvárad.
Ft. István Csűry, the bishop of the KRE, said: the celebration is overshadowed by the fact that the creation of the church district was made necessary by the Trianon decision. With the dictation, the Tiszántúli Reformed Church District was split in two. "The dictation that made the horrors of the First World War even more horrible cannot be called peaceful, because its consequence is suppressed peacelessness and suffering. 100 years was not enough to forcefully suppress pain or forget reality with false promises. We have lost 100 years, but we must prepare more consciously for the next one. First of all, we must not forget that our parish was founded in 1557. Castle and its surroundings, its priests and scientists were the protagonists. (...) Secondly, we cannot forget that we have remained on the vessels of mercy (Rom. 9:23) and we can hope for the future," the bishop emphasized.
Ft. Zoltán Balog, the bishop of the Dunamellek parish of the Hungarian Reformed Church, built his speech blessing the flags of the parishes of the KRE around the idea that even though the years behind us have been trying, "We are by the love and command of God, we are growing and we are together".
At the GK meeting, the past three years were reviewed and the new Reformed hymnbook was presented. The members of the GK were shocked by the "Stalinist times" step of the Romanian judiciary to initiate an ex officio investigation against the KRE and the bishop of the Transylvanian Reformed Church District, with "false accusations" against István Csűry and Béla Kató of Ft . The presidency was tasked with formulating the GK's protest against the "hostile and baseless" procedure.
