Lithuania imposed a state of emergency due to violent immigrants from Belarus, who were also fired with tear gas.

The Lithuanian border guard deployed tear gas and other coercive devices against violent illegal immigrants entering from neighboring Belarus, the border guard service announced on Saturday.

In addition to using tear gas, the border guards who took action against the group of eight migrants shot in the air, laid them on the ground and handcuffed the intruders.

According to the information, 116 people were arrested on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the year, 938 migrants have been stopped at this border section, which is 11.5 times more than the number of similar cases registered in the same period of the previous year.

Due to the migrant crisis, Lithuania ordered a state of emergency on Friday.

However, Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyté cautioned against "over-dramatizing" the situation, according to which the availability is primarily necessary due to the measures to be taken in the field of logistics.

Lithuania has a 1,070 kilometer long Schengen border, which is also the external border of the European Union. Within this, the longest is the 679-kilometer border section with Belarus. Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenko warned in his parliamentary speech at the end of May that his country is an obstacle in the way of drug smuggling and illegal migration, but if the West does not stop applying pressure, the Belarusian authorities will think about whether this activity is worthwhile. to continue.
